What Happens in Vegas…Ends Up on “DMZ”

No “lawyers” here. Get in the “Zone” and find out the latest in what’s really happening on the Vegas entertainment scene.
One of the newest trends on the Strip is the “artist-in-residence” concept. Unlike back in the day when Sinatra, Streisand, and “The King” held court, today’s mega-stars are booked for periodic extended runs, aka “residencies.”
With the sabbatical leave of Celine Dion and the departure of Shania Twain, Caesars Entertainment has brought in Reba McEntire, along Brooks & Dunn to the cavernous Caesars Colosseum for an “artists-in-residence” gig this spring.
Veteran pop superstars Boyz II Men have just extended their residency at The Mirage, while the Hard Rock Hotel recently announced that award-winning CW group, Rascal Flatts will be performing at The Joint for an extended “Flatt out” run. And legendary rock super group Journey will be “in residence” at The Joint April 29-May 16.
Word on the streets says that “JLo” has a deal in the works for a mega-residency at Planet Hollywood. This would bring another blockbuster female singer to the hotel’s AXIS™ Powered by Monster™ “theatre-meets-nightclub” entertainment venue along with mega-star Britney Spears, whose popular “Piece of Me” show continues to draw big crowds.
Fab Fact: Originally known as the “Aladdin Theatre for the Performing Arts,” this mammoth 7,500-seat theatre opened in 1976 with a performance by Neil Diamond. Now downsized to 7,000 seats, the venue still ranks as the largest theatre of its kind in the U.S., as well as the largest theatre on the Strip.
Speaking of “Brit-Brit,” rumor has it that “The Princess of Pop” will be teaming up with hot Aussie sensation Iggy Azalea for a duet in the near future. We can’t wait to see how that “dynamic duo” works out. And we’d love to see them both perform together on the same stage here in Vegas, even for just a one-off appearance.
OMG! It’s ONJ! The “Fabulous Flamingo,” (I just love using that word “Fabulous!”) also recently announced that another pop icon will be extending her star power at “The House That Bugsy Built” along with longtime artists-in-residence, Donny & Marie. Olivia Newton-John, who became everyone’s darling with her signature performance in Grease alongside John Travolta, will continue to be wowing audiences with her songbook of classic hits as part of her aptly titled and all-new “Summer Nights” production during this extended run.
The long-rumored residency of superstar Mariah Carey (aka “Mimi”) is now a fact. As the “Best Female Artist of the Millennium,” the beautiful and enormously talented Carey is bringing her immense superstar clout and enormous five-octave voice to Caesars’ Colosseum in May. She announced the blockbuster deal on the Ellen Degeneres show in January. The show will be the first times that the pop diva will perform her 18 #1 singles live in concert.

That’s a wrap. See you at the after party. And guess who’s throwing it?
Be fabulous!
