Tallavegas Lights: The Ballad of Belinda Fabulous

Las Vegas event planner

I have a true confession; more like a guilty pleasure that I am now willing to divulge…Talladega Nights starring Will Ferrell is one of my favorite movies. Shocking, I know…but not nearly as shocking as the fact that yours truly is in the midst of penning the sequel to the 2006 blockbuster. The storyline goes like this:
During the opening credits, the following quote is displayed: “Vegas is all about excess. Hot, nasty, bad ass excess.” -Cher 1974

NASCAR stock car racing sensation Belinda Fabulous is a national hero because of her “win at all costs” approach. The fastest woman on “The Strip” and four wheels, Belinda Fabulous (JENNIFER LAWRENCE) is one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history. A big haired American winning machine, Belinda has everything a  Kentucky debutante daredevil could want, a luxurious Las Vegas condo, a smokin’ hot “boy toy” (CHANNING TATUM) and all the gourmet food she can eat.  She and her loyal racing partner, childhood friend Bobbie Sue (AMY SCHUMER), are a fearless duo — “Shake” and “Fake” by their fans for their ability to finish so many races in the #1 and #2 positions, with Bobbie Sue always in second place. When flamboyant ex- IndyCar driver Danica Patrick (DANICA PATRICK of course) challenges “Shake” and “Fake” for the supremacy of NASCAR, Belinda Fabulous must face her own demons and fight Patrick for the right to be known as racing’s top driver. Losing her “boy toy” and job to BFF and fellow wing girl, Bobbie Sue, Belinda Fabulous must kick some serious asphalt (in Jimmy Choo shoes) if she’s to get her career back on the track, beat Patrick and reclaim her fame and fortune.

I know…Oscar is already calling. But, until this hits the silver screen…let’s settle for the real deal…

If the sound of screaming engines and the smell of burning asphalt gets your heart racing, you should be in Vegas for NASCAR. Every March, massive crowds descend upon “Glitter Gulch” for the annual NASCAR race weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Besides the excitement of the actual races, the event draws big names in country music and entertainment to town, there are specials at bars and restaurants, and fans have a chance to see a parade with the cars and meet some of the drivers. It’s a racing fan’s dream come true.

Since its inception in 1998, Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s annual NASCAR Weekend has pumped billions of dollars into the economy of Southern Nevada.

That’s right … BILLIONS. With a capital “B.”

130,000 fans fit into the speedway on each day and will be making their way to Las Vegas for NASCAR weekend. This is a big draw and there is big money. Definitely big crowds, (did I say big money?), and speeds of over 190 miles per hour along the track. To tell you how big this is, the final day will draw over 100,000 fans alone. With that crowd comes $240 million in estimated economic impact.

According to Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority research, 71% of the fans come from out of town. Aside from the obvious hotel-room and rental-car sales, millions of dollars in revenue are generated in areas not always considered when NASCAR comes to town.
